Nomato Sauce

For some individuals on a gut healing journey it can be helpful to avoid nightshades for a period of time. Nomato sauce is a wonderful alternative to a tomato sauce and can be used in any recipes as a substitute for tomato. Nomato sauce has the added benefits of beetroot which is a powerful liver detoxifier.

Nomato Sauce

Ingredients

300g JAP/Kent pumpkin
2 beetroot, peeled
2 stalks celery
1 red onion
2 cloves garlic
1 tablespoon ghee
350ml water
50g honey
3 tablespoons lemon juice
1 teaspoon dried mixed herbs
2 teaspoons sea salt

Cooking Instructions

Chop pumpkin, beetroot, celery, and onion into small pieces and add to a saucepan.

Finely chop garlic and add to the saucepan along with ghee, water, honey, lemon juice, mixed herbs, and sea salt.

Bring the saucepan to the boil, then reduce heat and simmer for about 30 minutes or until the vegetables are very soft.

Use a stick blender or regular blender to blend until very smooth.

Use immediately or freeze in 1/2 cup silicone moulds for later use.
